Creative Arc

The creative component consists of art, music, physical education, performing arts, and digital creative media. Whilst being compulsory in Years 7 and 8, this arc will become an ‘elective’ in later years.

Performing Arts

The  Arts are at the very heart of the King’s Hawthornes community and all students follow courses in music, art and drama. Drama and music at King’s Hawthornes also enable students to work with the very best practitioners in modern theatre and peripatetic teaching. We endeavour to produce creative and innovative productions which are exciting, powerful and dynamic. Indeed, the annual school productions are highlights of the King’s Hawthornes calendar.

Sport

The King’s approach to sport is in line with the school’s central belief that education is concerned with the whole human being and that every student has the capacity to achieve something worthwhile. The main objective of the sports programme is to identify and develop skills in every student. We are extremely proud of our sporting provision. We pride ourselves on being able to offer a wide variety of sports: students take part in dance, fitness, football, rugby, cricket, table tennis, badminton, rounders and athletics. Outstanding performers in any sport are given every help and encouragement.

Enrichment

King’s Hawthornes also offers a substantial enrichment programme.  More than 20 clubs are offered at any one time, including: Chess, French as a second language, Creative Writing, Debate Society, Volunteering, STEM, Sports teams, Music, Art, Drama and much more.

In weekly PPE lessons (public speaking, philosophy and ethics), students develop both confidence and presentational skills in their weekly lessons.  All of this is delivered wherever possible through the assistance of Digital Media, with every student issued with a chrome book.

King’s Hawthornes Royal Marines Combined Cadet Force

The aim of the Combined Cadet Force is to provide a framework through which young people develop the qualities of team work, self-reliance, resourcefulness, leadership and responsibility. It also aims to engender a sense of public service and provides opportunities to take part in military training together with outdoor activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and leadership qualifications accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management. All students at King’s Hawthornes will have the opportunity to apply for a place on the CCF provided by the Royal Marines.

Part of the Sea Cadets family, Royal Marines Cadets enjoy all the exciting activities on water that Sea Cadets do, as well as branching off into serious adventure training too. Specialising in orienteering, field craft and weapons handling is what makes Royal Marines Cadets unique.
