Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the King's Leadership Academy Hawthornes from the Principal – Mr Peter Gaul.

In our school’s foyer, you will see a sign that reads ‘Excellence is a habit’, an idea from Aristotle, the Greek philosopher from over two thousand years ago.

The idea of excellence was relevant then and is just as relevant now in the Twenty-First Century. A striving for excellence underpins everything we do on a daily basis at King’s Hawthornes: excellence in attendance, excellence in attitude, excellence in appearance and excellence in endeavour in every aspect of the curriculum.

We believe that success is not pre-determined in life: success comes from the forming of great habits, which create the strength of character vital for success in the modern world.

Central to our pursuit of excellence is our Aspire Code, which we teach our students every day. Aspiration/Achievement is setting ourselves ambitious goals and striving to reach them on a daily basis. Self - Awareness is knowing ourselves, who we are and how we can improve. Professionalism is knowing how to act and present ourselves to the world in an impressive manner. Integrity is doing the right thing when no - one is looking. Respect is being aware of how our actions affect all those around us, ourselves, our peers, our families and our communities. Finally, Endeavour is working hard in a committed way to achieve our aspirations.

Our school’s curriculum is designed to help our students to develop the academic skills, individual habits, qualities of character and leadership necessary to succeed at all levels; this is achieved through a knowledge-rich academic curriculum, supported by a varied enrichment programme of performing arts, sport, public speaking, Royal Marines Cadets, Duke of Edinburgh amongst many other activities.

A striving for excellence underpins everything we do on a daily basis at King’s Hawthornes: excellence in attendance, excellence in attitude, excellence in appearance and excellence in endeavour in every aspect of the curriculum. Peter Gaul - Principal of King’s Leadership Academy Hawthornes
