Music at KS4 gives students the opportunity to perform, compose and understand music from a wide range of traditions and styles. By developing practical confidence, creative expression and detailed listening skills, students grow as thoughtful, skilful musicians. Music contributes to our Maximise Your Potential strategy by encouraging discipline, creativity and self-reflection — skills that also benefit students well beyond the classroom.
The downloadable Music overview sets out the three components: performance, composition and the listening exam. It explains the requirements for ensemble and solo work, composing to a brief, and studying set works across four Areas of Study. It also includes practical advice on how parents can support, from encouraging regular rehearsal to discussing musical ideas and helping students prepare for the listening exam. This guide helps families understand how to support musical progress throughout the course.
