The central motivation of my career has always been to ensure that students from disadvantaged backgrounds have the best possible start in life. I believe that all young people deserve a high-quality education. However, for some young people, this education is critical to breaking out of the cycles of poverty to which they have been born. I was once this young person; I understand what high expectations, discipline and courage can achieve.
Believing in what you do gives you energy. I believe I am making a difference to the community that I serve and this energises me each day. I feel a sense of duty to myself, to my friends, to my family and to my colleagues to be the very best that I can be. I aim to instil the idea that students should strive to be the best versions of themselves; for themselves and for the communities which they are part of. At King's Hawthornes I have led Personal Development and have seen how the dedication of staff can build students into values-driven and successful young leaders.
In my current role as Teaching and Learning lead I am dedicated to empowering teachers through high-quality professional development and instructional coaching. I believe that excellence in teaching and learning is not an occasional achievement but a daily habit, cultivated through high expectations, consistent and specific practice and a relentless focus on development. My commitment is to create an environment where both staff and students are inspired and equipped to embed excellence into everything they do.
I compete in Olympic Distance Triathlon and my best time is 2 hours and 59 minutes. It is not the performance of which I am most proud, though. That would be my first triathlon at Bala Lake in Wales in 2017. It was the one which scared me the most; it got me out of my comfort zone. My PB for the 10k distance is 40 minutes and 41 seconds. The 41 seconds haunts me. I love reading, camping and cooking. An ideal weekend would involve all three.
